Getting To Know Your Doctor.

Training:

Dr. Billet graduated from the University of Maryland in 1974. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Maryland in 1978. This was followed by training in General Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital. He completed a residence in Plastic Surgery at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in 1985.

Certification and Appointments:

Dr. Billet was certified by the University of Maryland in 1978. He became a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon after successfully completing written and oral examinations in 1986. In addition he has passed examinations to receive the Certification of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand in 1992. 

He is a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Fellow American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Medical Society, and the Seaboard Medical Association. 

Dr. Billet has privileges at six area hospitals.  

Family:
Dr. Billet and his wife Saria Sandlin have two children, Allison Sandlin Billet and Michael Louis Billet. He is an Eagle Scout and enjoys astronomy and outdoor activities. 

Operation Smile:
Dr. Billet has been active in Operation Smile, going on 12 trips and personally leading eight missions. 

Publications and Presentations:
Dr. Billet has written dozens of papers and has made numerous formal presentations on various aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery, to include presentations for the American College of Surgeons, Vascular Forum, Plastic Surgery Symposium, and Chesapeake General Hospital (New Direction).
